Esther Marie Sampson (Hayes)
Northborough –
Esther M. (Hayes) Sampson, age 85, passed away quietly Saturday December 9, 2017. She was surrounded by her large family including the love of her life and husband of 67 years, “Sam”. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frances and Catherine Hayes, her infant son Dana, as well as her younger brother Francis and sister Rita.
Born in Brighton, MA, Esther was the matriarch of her large, close-knit family of 12 children, 17 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Her pleasures in life were her family, her many friends, rides to the ocean, and eating out.
Living most of her life in Framingham, MA, she had enjoyed her last 20 years as a resident of Northborough. A devout Catholic, she was a long time parishioner and member of The Women’s Club of St. Rose of Lima Church, as well as The Northborough Women’s Club.
Along with her husband Wilfred H. Sampson from Newton, MA, Esther is survived by her son David Sampson and his wife Juliette of Northborough, MA, her son Donald Sampson and his wife Lisa of Newton, MA, her daughter Diane Roberts of Hopedale, MA, her daughter Donna Chase and her husband Gary of Hopedale, MA, her son Daniel Sampson and his wife Karen of Tampa, FL, her daughter Denise Eckstrom and her husband Joseph of Scituate, MA, her son Douglas Sampson of Tampa, FL, her daughter Deirdra Sampson of Hopkinton, MA, her daughter Dara Howorth and her husband Nicholas of Northborough, MA, her daughter Doreen Sampson of Marlborough, MA, her daughter Deana Kadra and her husband Mark of North Oxford, MA, and all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
We know that our beloved mother will forever be watching over us, telling us to “be kind” and to always “keep smiling.”
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 13th from 5-7 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. Esther’s funeral Mass of Resurrection will take place on Thursday, December 14th at 10 a.m. in St. Rose of Lima Parish, 244 West Main St. Northborough. Burial will be in MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
