Andrew “Barry” Barrowman Matthew, Jr. 85, died November 29, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Ellen (Tansey) Matthew; sons, Mark A. Matthew of Santa Ana, CA, Paul A. Matthew, Gregg A. Matthew and Todd A. Matthew of Berlin and Glenn A. Matthew of Worcester, nine grandchildren, a great-grandson, two brothers, David V. Matthew of Port St Lucie, FL and Carl J. Matthew of Berlin and several nieces and nephews.
Barry graduated from Clinton High School, Class of 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy for four years. He was employed by New England Power Service Company (National Grid) for 37 years. He served on the Berlin School Committee and the Personnel Committee. For twenty years, he owned and operated Matthew and Sons Trucking in Berlin and Boylston. He enjoyed volunteering at O'Leno State Park in High Springs, FL and for the Meals on Wheels program in Berlin for many years. Barry enjoyed gardening and traveling the country in his motor home.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, December 8, 2017 from 3-6 p.m. in Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main St. Northborough. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. in The United Church of Clinton, 109 Haskell St. Clinton. Burial will take place privately. Please omit flowers. Instead, memorial gifts may be sent to The United Church of Clinton, 109 Haskell Avenue, Clinton, MA 01510 or to the Berlin Fire and Rescue Squad, 31 Linden Street Berlin, MA 01503.
