Obituary for Paul A. Laflamme

Paul A. Laflamme
Paul A. Laflamme, 82, long time owner and operator of Paul’s Barber Shop of Whitinsville and husband of Dorothy A. (Rondeau) Laflamme, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017, in the Milford Regional Health Center with his family by his side. Paul was born January 21, 1934, in Sutton, the youngest of seven children to the late Louis and Auria (Fortier) Laflamme. He attended Sutton and Northbridge Public Schools. As an ambitious teenager, he worked in several of the local textile mills as well as being a pinsetter at the former Pythian Bowling Lanes. He was a candle pin bowler who ran many leagues at Pythian and Sparetime bowling alleys.
Paul attended the Dalbec Barber College in Boston and upon earning his barber license opened Paul’s Barber Shop in Linwood. Shortly thereafter, Paul was called to active duty with the US Army, where he served his country with honor. Upon his return, Paul reopened his barbering business in North Uxbridge. In 1959 he met the love of his life, Dorothy; in 2016 they celebrated 55 years of devotion to each other. During this time he moved the barber shop to Whitinsville where he continued operation until his retirement in 2015. Paul had an uplifting personality with his own way of kindness towards others. For many years Paul worked in the former Grafton and Westborough State Hospitals. In the barber shop or his home, he would greet everyone with a genuine smile and a joke or two; all were welcome.
In addition to his wife, Paul leaves behind his children; Michelle L. Jones and her husband Warner of Holden, Mary A. Chambers and her husband Michael of Johnsburg, IL, John S. Laflamme and his wife Amy of Lunenburg, Bryant J. Laflamme and his wife Debra of Douglas, and Daniel J. Laflamme of Willington, NC. A son, Paul R. Laflamme passed away in 1982. He also leaves 7 grandchildren whom he loved, Jacob, Emily, Troy, Brittany, Courtney, Stephanie, and Tyler. Paul was predeceased by his siblings; Louis Laflamme, Eva Lee, Helena Laflamme, Alice Morrissette, Ida Lachapelle, and Leo Laflamme.
Paul found enjoyment in his family and looked forward to family gatherings. He was an avid gardener and was most proud of his sunflowers. He enjoyed bowling and following the Red Sox and Patriots. Paul believed in keeping up with technology and would often attend technology classes with Dorothy. Please consider honoring Paul’s life by donating to St. Patrick’s Building Fund, 1 Cross Street, Whitinsville, MA 01588 or Good Shepard Church PO Box 517, Linwood MA 01525.
Calling hours are 9 to 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 21, 2017, in Carr Funeral Home, 24 Hill Street, Whitinsville. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 AM in the Church of the Good Shepherd, 121 Linwood Street, Linwood. Paul will then be laid to rest with Military Honors in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Whitinsville. Hays Funeral Home of Northborough is honored to assist the Laflamme Family with all arrangements. To leave a condolence please visit Paul’s Book of Memories at www.HaysFuneralHome.com.
