I have such happy memories of my visit from Australia in 2008 to meet my American cousins. For my sister Patricia and me, it was the first time we met any of our American Hewitt family. For my father, Lenox, it was a joyful rekindling of old bonds, formed years ago. For all of us, it was a very special time. I vividly remember pulling up outside Sandy and Betty’s beautiful white house and seeing a tribe waiting to meet us. We were overwhelmed by your warmth and welcome. I remember Sandy sending out for lobster rolls (delicious) and Betty’s exquisite patchworks and thinking how lucky we were to be with you all. Just recently (January 16) Sandy emailed birthday wishes to my father in advance of his (100th) birthday – it seems typical of the warm-hearted, generous man I remember that he would be thinking ahead of someone else. Sandy was my cousin. As a little kid in the 50s I remember him in his Navy uniform. He looked so sharp. Living 3000 miles apart, the visits were short and all too seldom, but there are good memories. A big man with a big heart, he loved deeply. I can hear that CT accent and the pride whenever he talked of his sons and their families. Corn picked, cooked and eaten within minutes was a culinary experience I will never forget. I miss him Love Crissa

Many thanks, Hew and Bill for the wonderful care and attention that you have given to Sandy and Betty over the many years. They were fortunate to have you living close enough so they could enjoy you and your children and their activities. It was comforting to hear that you were both with him during his time in the hospital and at the time he died. Please know that our sympathy is with you and we wish we could be there in person during this time and at the time of the funeral.
